Secure Data Erasure

When it's time for a new computer, or an upgrade of your current computer's storage, what do you do to make sure that the information is safely and securely gone? What do you do with those old hard drives, floppy diskettes, compact discs, backup tapes, USB memory keys and external hard drives?

Throwing away an unwanted computer, storage device or disk is a bad idea. Finding these items and using the information stored on them for fraudulent purposes is big business in some places! At the very least, your computer probably contains personal information and things that you consider to be private. As a home computer user, you don't want to make these things public. Walsh Computer Technology can help.

Business owners--especially those in the financial and medical industries--are under even more pressure than ever to make sure that no information leaves their operation. The laws concerning information disclosure have become more potent over the years, and the ramifications for violating them--even unintentionally--can be severe. Don't take this risk. Walsh Computer Technology can help.

Whether you are a home or business owner, you do not have to look far to find news stories of data loss or leakage, some of it from improperly discarded computers. And just putting files in the Recycle Bin or Trash isn't enough--you need to make sure they are overwritten with random data if you want to be at all sure they are really gone.

We offer many data destruction options, for almost every type of computer storage device out there. For those who truly require the ultimate in security, we offer physical destruction of the storage device or media--with proof that the destruction took place if you need it. We can even degauss tapes and hard drives if needed.

For those who wish to sell, donate, re-use or start over fresh with their current computer or storage media, we offer data erasure services that allow the unwanted device to be reused in other ways.

Home computer data destruction is FREE for computers delivered to our location. We will provide a certificate of data destruction upon request, up to thirty days after your data is erased.

Business computer data destruction starts at $5 per computer or less for many computers (fifty or more). Please see our pricing page. On-site data destruction services will be billed at our normal hourly rate of $20 per hour, along with the per computer fee. We typically do not have to remain onsite other than to start the process and return when it is finished to verify that your information is gone.

* Please note: All data destruction is done in good faith, and Walsh Computer Technology disclaims all liability for the results of data destruction we perform. This service is provided for use strictly at your own risk. It is possible, especially with methods such as pattern overwriting, that bits of data can survive the erasure process. We strongly recommend total destruction or degaussing of storage devices and media if you need to be as sure as possible that the data is destroyed.

If we believe that we cannot do a satisfactory job of destroying your data, we will tell you. Walsh Computer Technology reserves the right to refuse any data erasure or destruction job for any reason.

Please also make sure that you have backed up or moved away any data you wish to keep. Data destruction means exactly what it sounds like--and even if your data could be later recovered, it would require highly specialized and extremely expensive services that have an exceptionally low rate of success, and that is only if the device has not been physically destroyed or the software pattern erasure stopped partway through its run. In other words, you'd better be serious because this is not a joke!
